The European Union is willingness to “strengthen” its partnership with Algeria, High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, Federica Mogherini said Sunday in Algiers.
In a news conference jointly held with State Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ramtane Lamamra, Mogherini said that her visit to Algeria, the second one after that paid in 2015, was “important” since it allowed giving a “fresh impetus” to the Algerian- EU partnership.
The discussions she had with Algerian officials were an opportunity to examine and review “the work accomplished so far by the two parties and the means likely to boost the application of this partnership, with a view to reinforcing and enlarging the cooperation in all the political, economic, security and society fields.”
“I am very satisfied with my visit, the content of my discussions with the Algerian officials has been excellent and positive,” the EU Foreign Policy Chief pointed out.
She also voiced the Bloc readiness to “accompany” Algeria in the process of the economic diversification, by providing its expertise in the matter and in good governance.
State Minister Lamamra welcomed the efforts made by Mogherini to reinforce the Algerian- EU partnership, adding that this visit allowed conducting a “deep assessment” of the state of this partnership and the cooperation for reestablishing peace and stability in the region.
