Chairman of the High Independent Authority for Election Monitoring (HIISE) Abdelwahab Derbal announced Wednesday in Algiers that over 300 international observers from various regional and international organizations would monitor the upcoming elections on 4 May in Algeria.
“310 to 320 international observers to whom invitations were sent by diplomatic channels in anticipation of legislative elections, have accepted to monitor the next elections,” said Derbal on the sidelines of his visit to the Centre of Audiovisual Recording, accompanied by Communication Minister Hamid Grine.
“The observers include 150 from the Arab League, 150 others from the African Union, 20 from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in addition to observers from the European Union (EU) and the United Nations,” stated Derbal.
Derbal stressed the “complementary” aspect of the electoral operation and hailed the interest attached by the Ministry of Communication in recording the speeches of candidates “through the necessary material and human means” available at the centre devoted to this purpose
