I thank my dear sister Minister Naledi Pandor for the warm welcome and the kind hospitality accorded to me and to all members of my delegation, since our arrival to Pretoria for this working visit.
I must say it is a great pleasure and honor to be here in this beautiful city of Pretoria and to renew with the Madiba spirit.
This spirit has indeed marked and prevailed over the extensive and very constructive consultations we just concluded. Mindful of the very critical context both at the international and regional levels, our discussions today covered a wide variety of issues ranging from the state and perspectives of the excellent bilateral relations between Algeria and South Africa, to the serious challenges of peace and security in our continent, including the situations in Mali, Libya, Western Sahara, the Sahel and central African regions, the mounting threats of terrorism in all corners of our continent.
I am delighted that our consultations concluded on a total convergence of views on all matters discussed, including on the need to step-up our joint efforts within the African Union and the United Nations to promote Africa’s interests and fulfill the legitimate aspirations of our peoples for peace, stability, prosperity and freedom. We have also renewed our common determination to boost the bilateral relations between Algeria and South Africa in all fields of action, in particular the political, economic and cultural dimensions.
Before concluding, I would like to renew our sincere congratulations to South Africa upon the successful completion of its mandate at the UN Security Council and express our deep appreciation of the strong leadership that it continues to provide at the helm of our continental organization, the African Union.
I thank you.
