President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune stressed Monday evening, in Lisbon, the State’s commitment to protect the members of the national community abroad and support their contribution to the country’s development.
President Tebboune made the statement in an address at a meeting with representatives of the national community in Portugal as he is on a State visit to this country from Monday.
The president of the Republic said the Algeria State was committed to ensure “protection to its children abroad and to defend them if they are victims to injustice in their country of residence, in the respect of the latter’s sovereignty.”
He pointed out in this respect that the country’s diplomatic representatives were assigned to defend any Algerian abroad who is a victim of harassment or injustice.
The president of the Republic mentioned the different measures he has taken for the benefit of the diaspora, such as the reduction of flight prices to preserve their links with their home country, the access to retirement under the national pension fund, in addition to other measures to ease the feeling of being far away from the country.
President Tebboune listened with interest to the opinions and proposals made during his meeting with representatives of the Algerian diaspora in Portugal, including a proposal about regular national conferences bringing together Algerian experts living abroad.
