The President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune sent Tuesday a message to Algerian women on the occasion of International Women’s Day (March 8). Here is the APS translation:
“In the name of Allah Clement and Merciful,
May the prayers and peace of Allah be upon His Messenger,
The Algerian woman celebrates International Women’s Day (March 8) in the midst of the struggle to build a modern state and a society where stability and tranquility reign. She is proud that she belongs to an authentic people who love freedom and who knows how to exalt the sacrifices of their daughters who knew how to impose themselves and illustrate the nationalist spirit in its most beautiful expressions during the harshest trials.
Militant, fighter and martyr, the Algerian woman was during the Glorious War of Liberation, an example of bravery and attachment to freedom and dignity, her achievements have made her a symbol of the defense of the land and honor. She was committed with as much bravery in the fight against the barbaric terrorism which had targeted the nation-state and its institutions.
The Algerian woman of today, baking on this valiant legacy, advances resolutely on the way to success following the footsteps of her grandmothers who gave birth to the heroes of November and to the valiant women martyrs witnesses of the barbarity of the iniquitous colonizer.
It is not surprising to see the Algerian woman rise, with scientific and professional skills, in free and independent Algeria, on the scale of the ranks in the constituted bodies, to reach senior positions in the administrations and companies while excelling in the most pointed specialties of sciences and knowledge and the most complex fields of advanced technologies within the universities and the research centers. She also invested herself in the wealth-producing work in our farms and villages that preserve the purity and dignity of the rural woman, while adhering to the process of economic revival that we have launched.
Algeria, which has enshrined in its legislation the principle of equity and equal opportunity, is setting up its public policies, fully aware of the necessary development and qualification of human resources. The woman shares with the man the citizen values as well as the rights and duties on the same footing of equality. Moreover, the statistics attest to the achievements of women, who have top employment rates and quality positions in several vital sectors, as evidenced by the number of women working in the justice, education, and health sectors.
This Algerian woman has proved that she is the pillar of the new Algeria which advances toward the investment in human capital, competence, and excellence to establish a culture of transparency and the value of work while rejecting any form of corruption for a new era where the only allegiance is lent to Algeria and where nothing prevails over the interest of the people and the fulfillment of their aspirations.
While reiterating my heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of your International Day, I assure you that the issues of women and the family will remain at the center of the concerns of the Government which I urge, on this occasion, to intensify its support for all efforts to strengthen national solidarity, to promote women’s rights and to preserve the Algerian family.
Long live Algeria,
Glory to our martyrs,
May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be upon you”.
